Q. How do you get into Robotics/Academy? A. If you would like to join the Robotics Team/ Robotics Academy, please report to the front office and ask for a Robotics slip (to join), or you may print out the Application Form in 'Academy - Important Forms/Documents'. (The button below will also send you to where you can print the Application Form). You may also email or talk to Mrs. Toptas about your interest.
Q. What are the qualifications of getting into Robotics/ Academy? A. You must be between 4th and 6th grade to join Robotics Academy. To join the Robotics Team, you must be at least in 5th grade (The Robotics Team requires a bit more experience than Robotics Academy --- The Robotics Academy is a pre-requisite to join the Robotics Team).
Q. When do we meet? / How frequently do we meet? A. The Robotics Team would meet every Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 - 4:45 PM on Wednesday. We stay from 3:30 to 5:55 on Friday. In addition to this, the team also meets every Saturday from 9:00 - 1:00 PM. Robotics Academy has to come on the dates of 2/21, 2/28, 3/7, 3/28, and 4/4 (Saturdays). The Robotics Academy students stay on those dates from 9:00 - 1:00PM
Q. What are the other activities that the student would do besides building/ programming robots? A. Some other activities that the team participates in are various camps, lock-ins, teamwork exercises, and field trips! Our team also frequently attends SAT Math and Reading Prep/Training.
Q. What are the competitions that we compete in? A. The major competition that we compete in is an international competition called FLL (see button below). Throughout the Robotics season, we may compete in other competitions such as Sumo-Bot (at our own school).
Q. If you are in Robotics, can you join any other extracurricular activities? A. If you are in Robotics, you may not join any other academic extracurricular activity such as MathCounts or Science Olympiad. The reason for this is that Robotics needs a lot of focus and dedication to make the season really efficient and smooth. However, you may join other sports teams under the permission of Mrs. Toptas (It should not get in the way of your Robotics Curriculum).
Q. How much does it cost to join the Robotics Team/ Robotics Academy? A. The cost for this Academy is $120.00 (which covers all training materials and lunch). To join the Robotics Team, the total cost of would be $500. It may sound a bit pricy, but it's definitely worth having students get interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ( or STEM) ! This $500 covers all our camps (as explained above), our competition fees, the food provided for us, etc.
Q. What does FLL stand for? A. FLL stands for First Lego League .
